Following his graduation from Chico State University, Bob settled down in Manteca and became a teacher – first teaching special education students at Lincoln Elementary School, then teaching Math and Science at Golden West Elementary School.
Thus began a decades-long career in education: 9 years as a special education teacher and 1 as a math and science teacher, 11 years as a District administrator and 19 years as the Superintendent of the Escalon Unified School District.
Everywhere he went, Bob always went above and beyond for every student. Bob prioritized supporting students with special needs, building up and advocating for numerous special education programs across San Joaquin County. Upon the implementation of Title IX, Bob helped found Lincoln Elementary’s girls basketball team and went on to lead the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). In this statewide leadership role, he helped expand athletic opportunities for children across California, chairing multiple committees and serving as CIF’s State President. Bob also initiated and oversaw the CIF’s State Appeal process for 15 years, helping student-athletes throughout California follow fair, consistent guidelines for upstanding behavior and academic success.
Bob’s dedication to education has continued into retirement. Whenever schools in our region need reliable, knowledgeable leadership, they know that they can count on Bob. After retiring, Bob has served as an interim principal of three schools (including Lathrop High School), an interim superintendent of two school districts, and an administrator for districts from Tracy to Turlock. Bob has also conducted successful investigations into school misconduct in Sacramento and Stanislaus Counties, providing valuable insight into the proper use of school funds.
Throughout all of this hard work, Bob has always remembered his roots. From 2016-2020, he served as a School Board Trustee for Manteca Unified. As Board President, Bob led the efforts for Measure A, which invested $260 million into increasing campus safety, modernizing school facilities, and strengthening career-technical education across Manteca Unified.
This November, Bob is running for Area 7 of the Manteca Unified School Board. He aims to keep our school community growing and vibrant, working to promote the safety, development, and well-being of students and staff in MUSD.
